REPORT: 6FT Track 2010 Training - Michelle

Postby Chris » Thu Jun 10, 2010 3:02 pm

In 2010 I finished my 2nd six foot track marathon training with NRG. For me, NRG make ‘six foot’ not just about race day but the whole training experience. I would never have achieved my 3rd place without NRG and the support I received from the friends I made along the way.

Why would I recommend training with NRG for six foot?

1. Confidence in the program
I had confidence in the NRG training program and knew if I followed the steps I’d achieve my goals come race day. The program is well constructed, professional in nature and prepared by experienced coaches and runners who understand the training six foot requires since they run it themselves! It ensures runners build gradually over the 20 weeks: from 18kms up to 45kms on race day. It also ensures runners have exposure to different terrains: from technical bush to roads and enough experience on the hills to get you there on race day.

2. Well organised training runs
The long training runs are unbelievably well organised and supported. The food and drink stops, the maps, the courses, the run hosts! What more can I say? It’s a great way to cover parts of Sydney you never knew existed. Every year the runs are improved and tailored based on prior year feedback. The Katoomba training weekend was the perfect example: all we had to do was turn up and everything was taken care of from the runs, the accommodation, the food, the massages and even the Saturday night entertainment. They had thought of everything (if only they could fix the weather!)

3. The friends and support from fellow members
The people you meet during the NRG program quickly become friends (3-4 hour runs will do that). The training becomes a group effort as everyone encourages and offers their experience and support. I don’t know how anyone could do this training on their own.
