Marcus Giles – Six Foot Track Testimonial
Coming home in an unfit state after 8 years overseas, I was determined to pick up where I left off, running the 6 Foot Track with NRG. I had done the race with the club before…but could I do it again? Being 41 now instead of 31, this was sure to be the toughest yet and my body had a long way to go. What I needed was a structured, methodical and above all enjoyable training schedule to make the most of my time and have fun with it.
The NRG training program led by Steve and Michael, gave me all of that and more. They built on years of their own experience and that of the club to offer diverse and challenging long Saturday runs which continued to turn up new gems of Sydney bush tracks. Add to that a painful but satisfying mid-week hill grind and the club’s usual interval and tempo sessions, then you have the makings of an ideal Six Foot preparation.
Like everyone else, I trained with a group of runners around my standard with whom I built a real camaraderie and mutual drive to improve…it’s amazing what sharing the perfect balance of pain and laughs will do for your running form!
And the result? Well I came through with flying colours, achieved my target time and could even walk the next day. A huge thanks to the club and coaches for making it possible. To anyone thinking about running this iconic race, I can guarantee you there’s no one better to do it with than the NRG mob.
Cheers,
Marcus
